MARA - BRIEF The MARA is 265 kms, north of Nairobi. The MARA is world renowned for its vast number of plains, game together with their associated predators. It is a country of breath-taking vistas, a panorama of vast rolling plains and hills, of uneven groves of acacia woodlands and dense thickets. In every direction in the MARA, there are the largest population of Lions found in Kenya and also boasts herds of Topi and a small population of Roan Antelope, animals not found in many other Kenyan parks or reserves. Elephants are fairly common and may sometimes holp up travellers on the road. Among the great variety of large beasts found in the MARA are Buffalo, Black Rhino, Hippo, Leopard, Cheetah, Zebra, Hartebeest, Gnu, Oribi, Warthog and Thomson's and Grant Gazelle. The Reserve is a vast area of undulating grassland nearly 2,000 metres above sea level, watered by one of Kenya's largest rivers, the Mara. Below is the itenerary for the FLIGHT PACKAGE. SHABA - BRIEF Although SAMBURU/ SHABA extremely dry, running through both parks is the Ewaso Nyiro (Black River), home to Crocodiles and Hippos. Herds of Buffalo also come down to the waters to cool off. The Park is located in the northern most part of Kenya. The SAMBURU PARK adjoins Buffalo Springs and to the east SHABA National Reserve. Combined they form the most interesting game view areas. This Parks are home to the Gravy Zebras, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, a rare long-necked Gazelle that stands on its hind legs to feed on higher bushes. This was also home to the peculiar Lion that adopted an Oryx. You are sure to also see the Eland, Oryx, Leopards, Cheetahs and Lions. - BRIEF The second most popular park in Kenya after the Maasai Mara, mainly because of the spectacular backdrop of Africa's highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro, which broods over the southern boundary of the Park.
